Drabble Meme fic: One Moment (NCIS)

liminalliz here: Gibbs/Kate?!! :-) She's being stalked by the perp and Gibbs is being overprotective and mebbe kissing her?! *dorks*
Alas, no kissing.
And, um. Not exactly a drabble either. Try, a double drabble plus eight? *looks innocent*
Pairing: Gibbs/Kate
Rating: PG-13 (one bad word)
Summary: He hates to see her like this.
He hates to see her like this. He saw the haunted look in her eyes when she reported back to him, and he wishes that they could just put this bastard in jail where he belonged.
She's staring at her computer screen, seemingly concentrating on the task he'd set her.
Almost hesitant, he moves towards her desk and thrusts a cup of coffee at her. "Here," he says gruffly. "You should get some rest."
She takes the offered coffee, surprised. "I'll be fine," she replies. "We're so close to catching him, Gibbs. I just know it."
"You getting a couple of hours sleep isn't going to stop that. Go h..." He pauses, knowing that home is the last place she wants to go at the moment. That her home no longer provides the sanctuary it once did.
"I'll be fine, Gibbs," she tells him more firmly, but her trembling hand tells him otherwise.
He is thankful that no one else is around as in two long strides he steps around her desk and almost without thinking, wraps his arms around her. She stiffens momentarily, before allowing herself to relax.
All he hopes is that he can make her feel safe, even if it's just for this one moment.
